Hey guys. I hope you are all well. I have been delving into the exciting world of niche perfumes lately and I recently discovered BDK Parfums. It is an independent perfume house based in Palais Royal, Paris and this house describes its fragrances as having high quality raw materials inspired by characters, movements and silhouettes. I discovered this brand on Instagram and when I visited the website, I was happy to see that they offer a choice of samples with either 4 or 8 4ml bottles which you can personalise. I bought 4 samples including Tabac Rose, Villa Neroli, Ambre Safrano and French Bouquet. Here are my thoughts on each of these perfumes.
Pink Pepper, Plum Accord and Lemon
Rose, Cinnamon and Chocolate Accord
Tobacco Absolute, Patchouli Oil and Labdanum
This fragrance is a blend of tobacco notes with Turkish Rose. The opening is very woody and smoky. I also found it to be a bit spicy with an oud base. The rose is not a fresh rose, however it is more oriental. The dry down gave me lemon and vanilla notes. The sillage and longevity of this fragrance is ok. Tabac Rose leans more on the masculine side. I would say this is not a safe blind buy, but if you are a rose and oud fan, then this is the fragrance for you.
Verdelli Lemon, Neroli Essence and Petit-Grain Essence
Moroccan Orange Blossom and Bulgarian Rose Absolute
Madagascan Vanilla Absolute, Madagascan Vetiver, Indonesian Patchouli and Labdanum
This perfume was inspired by the beautiful Italian island of Capri. Think of beautiful orange trees, an azure coloured sea that seems to be sparkling, and beautiful dreamy sunsets. I definitely dream of summer when I smell this fragrance. It is obviously Neroli based but the Neroli is not overpowering. The opening is very sweet, citrusy and fresh and, I get a bit of vanilla with the dry down. The longevity is average with this fragrance and the scent is more feminine. If you are are fan of white flowers e.g. orange blossoms and neroli then this fragrance is for you.
Aldehyde C12, Coriander and Bergamot
Rose, Jasmine and Orange Blossom
Labdanum, Tobacco, Vetiver, Patchouli, Violet, Sandalwood and Tonka Bean
This was my favourite of the 4 perfumes. French Bouquet pays tribute to the legacy of French perfumes in the 1970’s. It is a sophisticated floral fragrance and, if you love vintage and nostalgic scents then this is for you. It is a sweet and powdery perfume. It has a dried rose opening with a woody base. I am a floral fragrance type of girl and this perfume made me feel quite elegant. I found this to be quite a mature scent and very easy to wear. The longevity and projection of this fragrance is excellent. I could still smell it on me the next day and in-between 2 showers. I will definitely be purchasing a full bottle.
Saffron Accord, Madagascar Black Pepper Oil and Plum Accord
Rose Absolute from Turkey, Olibanum Absolute and Black Leather Accord
French Oak Extract, Caledonian Sandalwood Extract and Madagascar Vanilla Bean Extract
This is a burning amber perfume full of saffron and the opening is quite leathery, woody, smoky and rich. I would also say it is oud based with a good balance of leather and vanilla notes. It is a strong and masculine niche fragrance and it could be overpowering for some. I prefer the dry down than the opening. I can smell the vanilla bean extract in the dry down and this adds a little sweetness to the fragrance. The longevity was average with this perfume. I would say if you are a fan of oud based perfumes with a bit of vanilla, then this is for you.
My first impressions of BDK Parfums were quite good. I enjoyed trying the samples and discovering new niche scents. I am yet to try the popular GRIS Charnel and I will be ordering some more samples from this perfume house. BDK also has candles, hair perfumes and laundry detergent. I would imagine your clothes would smell absolutely divine after using the Eau De Lessive Edition Rose. Thank you for reading and have a great weekend.
